Lake Anne is where Reston began. “The Lake Anne Village Center was the first part of Reston to be developed and is centered on Washington Plaza, which is adjacent to Lake Anne at its northern end,” Fairfax County’s Reston plan says. The plaza mixes shops and restaurants with apartments and condos, including the Heron House tower, which the plan describes as 9 to 15 stories surrounded by low-rise buildings. Around it are townhouse clusters, apartments and single-family streets running north to Baron Cameron Avenue and Lake Newport.

Where it is
The village center itself is about 44 acres, by the county’s Supplementary Planning Areas map layer. The county designated the areas around Washington Plaza as the Lake Anne Village Center Historic Overlay District in 1984, “in recognition of the significance to the community as Reston’s original Village Center,” and named Lake Anne a Commercial Revitalization Area in 1998. The plan’s goals are more homes and daytime workers at Lake Anne while protecting “the historic and architectural quality of Washington Plaza.” The plan also names the Washington Plaza Cluster, by the architects Whittlesey and Conklin, among the most recognized examples of Reston’s early cluster development.
The county plan does not draw a line around the wider village, so this page covers the homes within about half a mile of Washington Plaza. Three-quarters of that land is in ZIP code 20190; the northern quarter, around Lake Newport, is in 20194. OpenStreetMap marks the area as Lake Anne Village. Reston is unincorporated: Fairfax County provides police, fire and rescue. See who to call.

Homeowners associations
“Most of the area outside of the TSAs is governed by one of the larger homeowners’ associations in the United States, Reston Association,” the county’s Reston plan says, and the Lake Anne section notes open space at the village center owned by Reston Association. Ask a seller or landlord which association covers an address.
Groceries and everyday stores
OpenStreetMap lists no supermarket or pharmacy inside the area. The nearest are:
- Harris Teeter, Spectrum Center, off Reston Parkway, about 0.8 mile west
- Giant and Giant Pharmacy, 1450 North Point Village Center, about 0.9 mile northwest
How we drew this area
Lake Anne Village Center is one of five village centers in Fairfax County’s Comprehensive Plan for Reston. Because the plan does not map the village around it, this page uses the homes within about half a mile of Washington Plaza, from the county’s shopping centers layer, inside the Reston plan boundary. School and ZIP shares come from laying the FCPS attendance areas and the county ZIP code map over that circle. Park and store locations are © OpenStreetMap contributors.
